Hi! I’m Malu Bonifacio and I am a Filipino Canadian living in Vancouver.

It has been 18 years since we first arrived in Canada. Similar to most Filipino-Canadians who immigrated here, we moved to secure a better future for our children. I consider myself an overseas foreign worker (OFW) because I lived and worked in Hongkong as a flight attendant for 8 years. It was a great but challenging experience, not only because the pay was good, but because you could see the world for free. On the other hand, you were away from your loved ones and had to do everything by yourself, including cooking.

Luckily, I started to learn how to prepare quick meals before I lived in Hongkong. I learned it through my mom, who passed on so many recipes.

That started my journey in cooking and baking. I remember bringing Filipino cookbooks that helped me hone my skills and palate through years of trial and error. I hope you will enjoy my take on Filipino recipes and baked goods.

My daughter Gabrielle also contributes to this blog. She is in her final year of Media Studies at University of British Columbia, and has done many different kinds of work through the years—from managing communications to leading children’s’ summer camps. She enjoys making art in all mediums and often writes about what’s happening in our neighborhood.
