Ingredients
- 2¼ tsp dry active yeast
- ¼ cup water, warm
- 4 cups flour
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 2 cups munggo filling
- 1 egg (eggwash)
- icing sugar (optional) for sprinkle
- 1 cup uncooked monggo red beans
- ⅓ cup sugar
- ¼ tsp salt
- 3 tbsp shortening
- 3 cups water
Instructions
- Dissolve yeast in warm water and 1 tsp sugar. Set aside.
- In a bowl combine salt, sugar and 2 cups flour.
- Add the milk, egg and yeast mixture. Blend well.
- Then add the remaining 2 cups flour. Mix well until the dough become smooth.
- Put in a greased bowl and cover with plastic or cloth for an hour until it doubles in size.
- Punch down the dough and roll out to 6x10 inch rectangle.
- Spread the munggo filling.
- Roll like a jelly roll.
- Divide into 2 logs.
- Braid the logs by pinching the top part together. Then twist one strand to the other strand.
- Make a circle. Cover with towel for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Brush the dough with egg wash.
- Bake for 30 minutes. Let it cool.
- Wash monggo beans and soak overnight.
- In a saucepan, boil 3 cups of water and place beans. Cover pan and let it boil for 30 to 45 minutes until soften.
- Placed the beans in a blender, then add sugar, salt and shortening. Let cool before using.

- In a bowl, combine all purpose flour, salt, oil and water. Mix everything with your hands. Set aside.
