Soft Cheesy Puto Bites
Puto is a Filipino steamed rice cake. There are many different versions on how to make it and originally, it was made from rice soaked overnight.
I am making this recipe with flour instead of rice. I added cheese to make it more appetizing. You can also add salted eggs or coconut as toppping. Puto is often paired with pansit (noodle) or dinuguan (pork blood stew).
Soft Cheesy Puto Bites
2 cups all purpose flour
1 cup sugar
2 tbsp baking powder
2 tbsp melted butter
½ cup milk
1 cup water plu 1 tbsp
1 cup shredded cheese, divided
In a large bowl, sift and mix flour, sugar, baking powder. Set Aside.
Combine melted butter, milk and water.
Take the bowl of dry ingredients and pour the liquid ingredients. Whisk until blended.
Stir ½ cup of the grated cheese.
Place in the steamer for 15 minutes.
When it is done steaming, take out the puto and sprinkle the cheese right away so it will melt.
