10 Best Places to See in Vancouver for Free

Our family has been living in Canada for almost 16 years now.  We have lots of families and friends who come to visit us.  I have always prepared itineraries or places of interest that we can go to.  There are a lot of beautiful, cultural and scenic places in Vancouver for free.  Here are some of the places:

STANLEY PARK

Stanley Park is the largest urban park in Vancouver, with 400 hectares of lush gardens, seawall, beach, and lots of Indigenous art, such as the Totem Poles.

GASTOWN

Gastown is known for its whistling Steam Clock, retail shops, restaurants, bars and galleries.

CANADA PLACE

Canada Place

The Welcome Centre is located in the Main Plaza. Friendly staff are always available to answer your questions and provide information about the facility and exciting events taking place in and around Canada Place.

                The Dream of Canada photo exhibit can be viewed on the observation deck on the upper promenade, on the north side of Canada Place at the top of the FlyOver Canada escalator.

                Heritage Horns can be heard sounding the first four notes of ‘O Canada’ every day at noon, as they have for the past 20 years at Canada Place.

  The Port of Vancouver Discovery Centre is located at the north end of Canada Place, and features touchscreen benches with animated infographics and videos that teach visitors about the port’s history, activities, trade, transportation and operations.  https://www.portvancouver.com/discovery-centre/

TheCanadian Trail is a unique walk across Canada from east to west and northto south. The Canadian Trail is divided into 13 equal sections to representour 10 provinces and three territories, with each province and its communitiesindicated by tile and coloured glass.

OLYMPIC CAULDRON

Olympic cauldron

The Olympic cauldron is located in downtown Vancouver beside the Vancouver Convention Centre at 1085 Canada Place, between where the Thurlow and Burrard Streets end at Vancouver waterfront. It is a massive, modern Olympic torch built for the 2010 Winter Games, occasionally lit for special events.

LONSDALE QUAY

Lonsdale Quay

Lonsdale is a great place to spend the day or evening with great views of the harbour. It has over 90 specialty shops and services. There’s also a fresh food market with local products, an international food court, specialty shops featuring local designers, kids shops/play area, restaurants, and a boutique hotel and spa.

The seabusride is in itself a unique and scenic way to reach the quay.

GRANVILLE ISLAND

This is an indoor market featuring a variety of colourfulfood and produce stores, showcasing handcrafted products and unique gifts. Itis great to walk around the harbour.  Youcan also take the aquabus (minimal fee) to see great sights along thewaterfront.

QUEEN ELIZABETH PARK

Queen Elizabeth Park

This 52-hectare park is located in the highest point in Vancouver proper. It is a former rock quarry that has been converted into a beautiful city park with flower gardens, public art, grassy knolls, and panoramic views over the city. The Bloedel Conservatory is situated in Queen Elizabeth Park.

LYNN CANYON PARK

Lynn Valley Suspension Bridge

The 250 hectare Lynn Canyon Park has its own suspension bridge built back in 1912. It has several hiking trails includes Baden Powell Trail, Twin Falls Loop Trail, Thirty Foot Pool Trail, among others.
